You are, of course, welcome to buy the book for fifty bucks later. I’d rather send it to you cheaper and now. And you should, too, for I’ll hound you for an order later, anyway. About the book:

The book is library-quality case-bound, approx. 450 pages, 50+ photographs (ISBN 0-7864-145-8). Don't fret: that's 369 pages of text, plus glossaries, appendices and over fifty photographs. I guarantee an easy, fun read.

Three years in the making, the book is a narrative of the Taft presidency woven around his relationship to the automobile. It's an easy read, a good book, and, by my best hopes, a useful book. It's a little rehabilitation of Taft's legacy, a little kick in Teddy Roosevelt's thick hide, and a celebration of the automobile. It is not a car book. It is political history that covers a time when automobiles were entirely political, and it tells the story of the man who made automobiles normal. While Henry Ford made the right car, Taft made it the right time. Without it, Ford would have been just another Charles Duryea. Remember him?

Above all, the book is American history. Fundamental questions of self-government and democracy were re-formulated during this time, a time I've labelled the “Third American Revolution.” It was a unique and important time. In this book you will find the story of the man who in his day defined America as much as any other -- as much as Theodore Roosevelt or Woodrow Wilson.

See my website for more & for Taft stories, photos and good fun.
